Background Noise: DelicateRandom Thought: Hey, I won't live like a squatter tomorrow!
Mood: Thrilled
So, good news 1 is that I'll have furniture and dishes and cats at this time tomorrow. Excellent. I'm getting a little tired of having one chair and an aero bed. Plus, now that all my painting and starching (I starched fabric to the bottom half of my bathroom walls since I can't put up wallpaper or wainscotting), I think I'd probably notice it more if I had to live like this for much longer.
Good news 2 is that Village Green hired me full-time as a Market Rate/Affordable Housing Analyst, which basically means that I get to wade through HUD regulations, chuck all the weekly and monthly and yearly budget/expenditure data into arts, charts, ans graphs and make reports out of it all. It also means that they'll give me benefits and vacation time. Hurrah!

Background Noise: Whole Lotta LoveRandom Thought: Oh how I love my new apartment....
Mood: anxious
I'm anxiously awaiting my parent's arrival on Saturday with my cats and my stuff. You'd be amazed at how much you really wish you had something when you have nothing but a chair and a lamp and a mattress. But it does mean that I get to admire my paint colors with abandon--and they are lovely. Thank goodness for those cement walls--that way none of my neighbors had to hear me blaring
Newsies and
Once More With Feeling while I painted. With a small mix of
Wicked and
Chicago thrown in, just for flavor. It's true--showtunes are the best to paint to.
I like hanging out in my empty apartment so much that I've forsaken screenings this week--plus it's been raining and I so love taking advantage of the fact that I live 3 blocks from work so that I don't have to be out in the rain. And for an added bonus, the phone book arrived yesterday, so I can find a Chinese place for first-night Chinese. Okay, it will be my 6th night, but I still won't have any furniture so I think it counts.

Mood:NEW YORK (Reuters) - Former Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick, the younger brother of
Atlanta Falcons'
Falcons quarterback Michael, was arrested on Monday and charged with three counts of brandishing a firearm.
According to a report in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, a warrant for Vick's arrest was issued after the parent of a 17-year-old male said the quarterback pointed a weapon at her son and two others after an altercation in a restaurant parking lot.
Brandishing a firearm is punishable by up to 12 months in jail and a fine of $2,500.
Vick's latest problems come just three days after he was dismissed from the Hokies football team for unsportsmanlike conduct at the Gator Bowl.
Vick was seen stomping on the leg of defensive lineman Elvis Dumervil while he was on the ground during Virginia's 35-24 win over Louisville on Monday.

Virginia Tech Kicks Marcus Vick Off Team
By HANK KURZ Jr., AP Sports Writer
RICHMOND, Va. -
Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick was dismissed from the team Friday, the result of numerous legal transgressions and his unsportsmanlike conduct in the Gator Bowl.
University president Charles Steger announced the dismissal on the same day that coach Frank Beamer met with Vick and his mother in their Hampton Roads home, the school said. Beamer informed them of the decision during the meeting.
Vick, the younger brother of
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, was suspended from school last year for several legal problems. The junior came under new and intense scrutiny this week after replays showed he stomped on the left calf of Louisville All-American defensive end Elvis Dumervil during the Jan. 2 bowl.
No penalty was called on the play and Vick claimed its was accidental. He further hurt his cause by claiming to have apologized to Dumervil, but the Louisville player said no such apology was ever offered.
On Friday, it was revealed that Vick had been stopped for speeding and driving with a revoked or suspended license in Hampton on Dec. 17. Vick's license had been taken away last year when he was cited for reckless driving and marijuana possession in New Kent County.
Steger suspended Vick from school at that time, and warned that any additional problems would effectively end his time as a member of the Hokies' football team.

My grandmother is convinced that they are
cloud seeding around Metro Airport in oder to thwart terrorists because terrorists don't like the rain. Appearantly, they have in fact been cloud seeding around New Boston, about a mile from Metro--this much is true. But according to my aunt's e-mail this morning Grams is working on this idea of government trickery. At least I can uneqivocally state that my father's and my tendancy toward conspiracy theory is genetic.

Becuase I couldn't agree with the writer or the commentator more sometimes...
"mutinousmuse: I absolutely loved the line - She had the sinking feeling that in addition to robbing her of the ability to discern between “jackass” and “hot guy who smells really good,” the alcohol had stolen her ability to formulate complete sentences. I mean really, haven't we all had that thought at one time or another?"

How much do I love the Academy Awards? Let me count the ways...
5. Something to do on Sunday after football season
4. I like the pretty lights
3. Independent films are nominated this year
2. It's all about my favorite subject
1.
Jon Stewart hosting
Yes, the Oscars have given up on stodgy funnymen (Billy Crystal was funny when we were like 8) and inapplicable funnymen (is Chris Rock really that funny when he isn't using his own material?) and given us instead a pointed comedian with more brains than most of the academy voters. And to top it all off, he's emceeing a year in which I actually really like most of the nominees. Ahh, there is someone up there who loves me--I told you
Jon Stewert was a Golden God.

Is it wrong to be excited that
V. Mars won't have a new episode until the 18th because I won't have cable until the 16th? Nah, I didn't think so either. I was worried for a moment that since my parents won't be out here until the 14th with all my stuff that I would miss "Dounut Run," both times its on. Lucky for me that
South Beach needs 2 hours next week. Also fun for my timing--if I hadn't gotten my apartment this weekend I wouldn't be able to go see screenings of
the Libertine and
Mrs. Henderson Presents this coming week because it would take me so long to get back to Wheaton on the Metra train. Small things and all that.

I finally got my apartment! Horray! After passing the criminal investigation (gee, there go all my private indiscretions) I finally get to pick up my keys this Friday after giving them a very large sum of money. Which means that I get to go in and paint for the next week while I don't have any furniture to paint around and no kittens to "help" me paint. Of course, my painting partner is abandoning me, but it's for a good cause and I'd be mollified if I got an
1814 map of London out of the deal, but I guess I'll be happy with at last getting my apartment set up and not having to wake up at 5 am in order to get to the commuter train so that I get to work on time. The 5 am wake up would be why I'm so sleepy this morning since the Rose Bowl kept me up far past my little old lady-like bedtime. I suppose I'm okay with the outcome, I'm glad that it was a close game but I'm sad because I like Matt Leinart--he's one of the nice ones, thanks to Nike for my being able to say that (so isTom Brady for that matter, though Michael Vick is not).
